Will the wifi hold a Zoom, and can we run AV in camp?
Nairobi, Addis and Mauritius resorts are in a different class from a six-tent camp or a Simien lodge. We test, we write the limitation down, and we do not let IT find out on site.
What we tell planners
Nairobi, Kigali, Kampala, Addis five-stars, Mauritius resorts, Park Hyatt Zanzibar, Four Seasons-level safari lodges and inner-island Seychelles hotels are in a different connectivity class from a six-tent seasonal camp, a Bwindi forest lodge or Limalimo after a Simien walk. The proposal should name the property’s likely bandwidth, not ‘wifi available.’
Starlink has improved many Tanzania and Kenya camps. It has not turned them into convention centres. Live-streamed global town halls from the crater rim, a granite beach or a highland escarpment are a special request with a backup. Outer-island Seychelles and some Zanzibar east-coast properties still need an honest note. Addis and Mauritius can usually hold the hybrid meeting the IT director actually meant.
Power, adapters and a print-or-PDF plan for decks belong in the ops manual. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are often UK-style; Ethiopia is often European; Mauritius and Seychelles vary by hotel. We can supply a silent projector and a screen in many lodges and island resorts if we know 60 days out — including a Mauritius ballroom, a Mahé meeting room, or a Bishoftu lake house. Broadcast-quality remains a city or top-tier resort job.
