Can we run MICE events during rainy season?
Yes — if you pick the right country and product. Green-season safari can be excellent. Zanzibar long rains, Ethiopia kiremt and Mauritius cyclone months are reasons to change the map, not to cancel every diary. Write the weather clause in the annex.
What we tell planners
Yes. ‘Rainy season’ is not one East Africa switch. Northern Tanzania and Kenya have long rains (roughly March–May) and short rains (roughly November); green-season safari can mean dramatic skies, calving in the south, and fewer vehicles — with airstrip and road honesty in the brief. Gorilla programmes run in the rain; it means mud, not closed parks. We still collect fitness.
What we will usually steer away from: a Stone Town and east-coast Zanzibar gala in the April–May long rains (stay inland or move the close to Mauritius or Seychelles); Simien walking in Ethiopia’s June–September kiremt (Addis and Bishoftu still work); an outdoor Mauritius lagoon gala in peak cyclone months without an indoor backup (roughly November–April). Nairobi, Kigali, Kampala and Addis meetings continue. Seychelles inter-island boats can be wind-delayed in the south-east trades.
Incentive houses should ask for a weather paragraph per destination on the actual dates, plus backups: alternate picnic sites, indoor gala, helicopter or extra night as buffer, not a generic ‘rain is lucky’ caption. Corporate travel agents should not sell a crossing-led July product in April because the rain slide looked romantic.
