Can we hold conferences in the Serengeti or other remote locations?
Yes, in a bush lodge meeting room of about 80–120. Four Seasons Serengeti, Meliá Serengeti and Serengeti Explorer can each sleep 150 sharing (75 single). A 200-delegate exhibition still belongs in Nairobi, Addis or Mauritius.
What we tell planners
You can hold a working session in the Serengeti, a Mara conservancy or a crater-rim lodge. Most Kenya and Tanzania bush lodges have around 77 rooms: 150 guests on double occupancy, 75 on single. Four Seasons Safari Lodge Serengeti, Meliá Serengeti Lodge and Serengeti Explorer by Elewana can each take 150 on a sharing basis. Four Seasons’ indoor MICE is 253 m² (classroom 40); Meliá and Explorer meeting rooms are typically 80–120, with wifi good enough for a deck, not always for live global broadcast. We write that in the proposal. &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is closed for rebuild until 2027.
If the working group exceeds 80–120, split the session or move plenary to Arusha or Nairobi even when the beds still fit. A full three-day slide-heavy agenda, exhibition or 200-delegate conference belongs where banquet and AV teams already exist: Nairobi, Arusha, Kigali, Kampala, Addis Ababa, or a Mauritius resort (city and beach inventory runs to 300+ rooms). Kenya is the efficient ‘plenary then a short bush overlay’ country because Wilson sits close to the hotel. Private islands cannot.
Incentive houses sometimes ask to ‘do the awards in camp’ for atmosphere. A lodge gala at Four Seasons Serengeti can work at meeting-room scale (80–120). A lighting plot and 300 covers is a Nairobi ballroom or a Mauritius tent with a wind wall. Intimate tented camps remain 8–24. We will not pretend a six-tent seasonal camp is a convention centre.
